Frequently Asked Questions

What should my dog bring for their stay?

Please bring your dog’s food in a labeled, non-returnable container, along with any medications clearly labeled with your dog’s name, dosage, and timing. For safety, medications should be packed separately from food.

If your dog has food allergies, please bring allergy-safe treats they can have during their stay. You’re also welcome to include a blanket or small comfort item, though we can’t guarantee its return.

For a complete packing list and arrival details, see Before Your Dog’s Stay.

Where will my dog sleep?

Dogs rest in their own private, climate-controlled sleeping areas — think of them as individual bedrooms designed to support calm downtime after outdoor activity. Because dogs sleep and nap in these private spaces, all guests must be able to settle comfortably in a kennel.

Sleeping areas are climate controlled and follow soothing evening routines with quiet music to help dogs relax. These areas are staffed from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and monitored by cameras overnight to ensure safety and peace of mind.

Why do tours and drop-offs require an appointment?

For safety and insurance reasons, dogs are secured when visitors are on site. Scheduling tours and arrivals helps minimize disruptions to playtime and allows us to maintain a calm, organized environment for both dogs and people.

Is your facility secure?

If a dog has developing or inconsistent recall within fenced areas, we may use a long line. This allows dogs to enjoy freedom of movement while safely practicing recall skills. You may occasionally see this equipment in photos — it’s simply part of how we support safe, positive play.

Our outdoor spaces are fully fenced and supervised at all times. Because Dogpatch is an active, outdoor environment, we’re not able to accommodate dogs with a history of fence-jumping or escape behaviors.

In addition to fenced play areas, we offer guided sniffaris and enrichment activities. When dogs are outside fenced spaces, they are closely monitored and may wear GPS trackers for added safety. All activities are supervised by experienced staff.

Does my dog need to be social with other dogs?

Yes. Dogs must be comfortable around both people and other dogs. While not every dog is a match for every other dog, we thoughtfully group dogs by size, play style, energy level, and comfort.

Our environment is designed for positive group experiences, and dogs must be able to safely coexist in a group setting. We do not accept aggressive behavior.

Is group play safe?

Dogs are grouped thoughtfully by size, play style, and comfort level. Toys are not used in group areas to avoid conflict, and groups are kept small and closely supervised at all times.

While minor disagreements can occasionally occur, our staff actively monitors all play. When dogs participate in activities outside fenced areas, GPS trackers may be used to provide an added layer of safety.

This same focus on safety is why dogs rest in private, kenneled sleeping areas when they are not actively supervised. These calm, secure spaces ensure dogs are safe and settled whenever our eyes are not directly on them.

How are new dogs introduced?

New dogs are introduced gradually, at their own comfort level. We start with a small “welcome group” and take time to observe interactions before introducing dogs to larger group settings.

Our goal is to build confidence and ensure each dog feels comfortable and supported as they get to know the pack.

My dog is a puppy or a senior — will they be okay?

Yes. Puppies and senior dogs receive individualized care, with adjusted activity levels, plenty of rest, and thoughtfully chosen play companions.

Our goal is to meet each dog where they are, supporting confidence, comfort, and enjoyment at every stage of life.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as possible, especially for summer and holiday dates, as availability is limited. Dogs who regularly attend programs such as Outdoor School often have greater continuity in scheduling, which can be helpful during busy times.

Will my dog be clean when I pick them up?

Dogs receive a warm water rinse before heading home. Many families choose to schedule grooming afterward — outdoor fun often comes with a little extra dirt, and that’s part of the experience.

Will I receive updates during my dog’s stay?

We share regular updates via Instagram Stories. While we may not capture every dog every day, checking in throughout the stay usually provides a good glimpse of daily life at Dogpatch.

What happens if my dog gets sick or injured?

You’ll be contacted promptly if there are any health concerns. If veterinary care is needed, we’ll coordinate with your preferred veterinarian or a trusted local clinic.

Even for minor issues, we’ll keep you informed so you’re never surprised by changes in your dog’s health or care.

Do you accommodate raw diets or special feeding needs?

Yes. Raw meals and special diets are welcome when clearly labeled. We’re happy to follow special feeding routines, and there is no additional charge for medications or dietary needs.

What if my dog has poor recall?

Some dogs may use long lines or GPS collars during outdoor time to support safety while still allowing freedom of movement, particularly during sniffari and enrichment activities.

These tools help dogs explore confidently while we continue to support and reinforce recall skills in a positive, low-pressure way.

Are there any breeds you don’t accept?

We don’t restrict by breed. All dogs are evaluated individually based on temperament, behavior, and safety considerations.

Can my dog have toys?

Toys are not permitted in group play areas to avoid conflict. Dogs are welcome to have toys in their private sleeping space if they find them comforting.

How do payments work?

Most stays are invoiced separately, with payment links provided at the end of your dog’s stay.

For small stays or items that aren’t invoiced, additional payment options are outlined on the Pay for Play and Stay page. A 10% discount is offered for cash payments made at the time of pick-up.

What’s included in the rate?

Our rates include daily care, outdoor activity, rest periods, and routine handling. We don’t charge extra for administering medications or accommodating special diets.
